About Us
Bactest was founded by Derek Price and Tony Carr to exploit the clear market potential for a new type of automated blood culture instrument to respond to changing healthcare practices and safety issues. Existing machines are unable to respond to point of care needs within a market where services are increasing centralised.
Of particular concern to the founders was the clear unmet need for advanced safety features and procedures to combat the rapid rise in HIV and other viral Infections when handling blood samples while testing.
The result has been the development of a microbial contamination testing technology platform featuring rapid detection with all the benefits of the existing automated system but in a small, portable, low power unit incorporating advanced, state of the art components and materials.
The Bactest Gemini automated blood culture instrument has been enthusiastically received by microbiology practitioners who believe that it is ideally positioned to meet the new demands of the diagnostics market.
